Even though I wanted to go on this trip that didn't mean it just happened like that. My parents were VERY hesitant on letting me even apply for it. Just like any abroad trip there are many dangers and worries and I can't blame them for expressing their concern to me. I am also their oldest child and have never been out of the country before so safe to say they were actually very freaked out actually. Why couldn't I just study abroad in Spain or Italy like a normal college kid?? Well I can't put it into words, but I just had this feeling in my heart that I had to go on this trip to Mozambique. However, a "feeling" didn't exactly sell my parents either so I had to pull all my cards out.. So not only will I get to experience personal growth on this trip, but also professional growth as well. I will be completing six credit hours while spending my trip with some of the most intelligent professors I have ever met. Dr. Nalley and Dr. Farmer are a HUGE reason I am going on this trip. They are so accomplished and so inspirational. I met with them several times each while deciding about the Mozambique trip and they couldn't have been more helpful. As well as completing school credit, I will be able to use my experiences to help with life beyond college and hopefully continue to help others in the future.
After many conversations and convincing, I finally got approval from my parents. This meant everything to me because my family is my world. I felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders and I could purely focus on what needed to been done for the trip. I was accepted into the program last November and ever since then I have been super busy! I've had meetings on meetings, shots on shots, and lots of program preparation. The program fee is quite the expense, but fortunately I received a scholarship from the business college that really helped out and I also have had many people make donations to help me make this opportunity a reality. I Just wanna give a big Thank You to everyone that has helped me out so I can go on this trip!! I am so blessed and so so thankful.
