A little about me...
Hey Y'all it's Emily! So a little about me, I am the oldest of 2 siblings (Sydney and Ross) and daughter to the most wonderful parents. The pic above was at my High School graduation.. a little outdated but hey its the best I got! I have lived in Texas my whole life and decided to branch out and go to the University of Arkansas to pursue my degree in Business Marketing and minor in Management. Why Arkansas?? Well it seemed like my whole high school all went to the same Texas universities and I wanted to explore a change in scenery and people. I also knew I wanted to participate in sorority recruitment and found out that the Greek Life community at Arkansas is HUGEEE! Arkansas has so much to offer and I have really enjoyed my decision to attend school here. I am just finishing up my sophomore year and it is definitely bittersweet.. kinda in denial that I am half way done with my college experience :'(
The first week I came Arkansas I participated in sorority recruitment. After a very long exhausting and stressful week I was so happy to receive a bid from the sorority I desperately wanted! Bid day in Arkansas is so crazy.. everyone opens their bid card at the same time and immediately takes off in a sprint to their new chapter! So many girls running around everywhere on what always happens to be the hottest day of the year. After finding my "bid day buddy" through the craziness I was then happily greeted by 400 other members of my sorority! This was easily one of my favorite memories of my college experience so far. Since then, I have been very involved in my sorority. I have participated in many events throughout the years and have held many leadership positions within my chapter. I am currently the Homecoming Chairman for next fall so wish me luck!!
So whats up with the blog??
Well this past fall one of my closest friends introduced me to a program that she thought I may be interested in. It was a summer session faculty-led service learning program in Mozambique, Africa! Any student at the U of A could apply to participate no matter what major you were. The program was centered on helping create more sustainable businesses for the people of that area and help them out for the long run. I was immediately interested in learning more about the program and what it had to offer. I became dead set that this was something I felt like I had to . I can't really explain it, I just knew this was something I needed to do. I finally convinced my parents to let me apply for it and was happily accepted last November. Since then it has been kind of a whirl wind of a journey.. lots of scholarship applications, fundraising, meetings, and preparation. This will be my first time ever leaving the country and I am so excited!! A little nervous too... but definitely so much excitement. This program I can already tell will change my life in so many ways and I couldn't be more excited for it. I decided I would start a blog to share my experiences abroad and maybe along the way encourage others to just follow your heart and live your life to the fullest! Now this is my very first blog ever so bare with me.. My spelling isn't always the best and my southern vocab isn't always the most grammatically correct, but yall will just have to accept it I'm sorry. I'm so excited to share this experience with you guys and I hope you enjoy following me on my journey!
