TODAY IS THE DAY!! I woke up this up this morning and it just didn’t feel real. I am leaving the country for the very first time and headed to one of the poorest places in the entire world. You can say I am experiencing an abundance of emotions, but I am very excited. I am so thankful that this experience has now become a reality; so many people are a part of making this happen for me. I have to specially thank my Granny though. Since both my parents work and my siblings are in school still, she told me she would come stay with us to avoid me having to try to get all ready for this trip by myself. She came in town the day I got home from finals and has dedicated ALL her time and effort to help me prepare for my trip. We have spent the past few days running countless errands and spending hours getting everything ready for me. I am so thankful to have someone willing to drop everything and come dedicate special time for me. Love you Gran!
So my day has consisted of a few last minute errands and having to pack everything! (Not a smart move on my part) This is going to sound like the typical Texan, but you better believe my last meal in America was Whatburger! I’m not quite sure what African food will be like, but I’ve been warned it’s a lot of chicken and rice. After I ate we spent a long time and a lot of effort to finally get my suitcase all packed and at the 45 pound limit.. let me tell you it wasn’t easy people!! I then said my goodbyes to my siblings and Granny. I was sad to have to say bye but I know they are excited for me. My parents then drove me to the airport. It was starting to feel more real now that I won’t be seeing them or have daily contact for over a month. Not gonna lie I had a few tears on the way to the airport.
We finally got my bag all checked and I met up with Jess and Claire at security. We all said our goodbyes to our parents and then we were on our way! Once we got through security we met up with the rest of the group and all hung out and got to know eachother better while waiting for our flight. The group is very diverse and I’m excited to get to know these people. We boarded our plane and it is very packed with people.. It’s a 9 hour flight so we will see how this goes.. Next stop London!
